The position:

AMEWAS, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and talented Electrical Engineer to support Electromagnetic Environmental Effects.The salary range of this position is 80,000.00 - $115,000.00, and is commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for remote work; on-site support is required.

A typical day as an Electrical Engineer may include:

  • Serving as an Electrical Engineer in the Electromagnetic Effects Group, NAVAIRWARCENAC DIV
  • Working within the Data Acquisition and Processing System (DAPS) group at Patuxent River Naval Air Station’s Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Test Range
  • Supporting the setup and maintenance of electrical sensing equipment for real-time data acquisition during electromagnetic effects testing (i.e., current transducers, oscilloscopes, RF equipment, etc.)
  • Developing and improving upon existing data acquisition methodology (i.e. improving efficiency of calibration or producing detailed documentation for training purposes)
  • Characterizing of RF equipment using network analyzers in terms of scattering parameters, or “S parameters” to produce calibration curves
  • Performing mathematical corrections of data such as applying probe correction factors or performing extrapolation using Fourier techniques
  • Utilizing data control/analysis software environments such as Matlab and LabVIEW to aid in performing signal analysis of measured electromagnetic effects data

 

Must-haves:

  • BA of Science in either Physics, Electrical, Computer Engineering or Mathematics or 10 years of relevant work experience applicable to RF, electromagnetics or signal analysis In lieu of a BA of Science
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience (Student research at the college level may count towards your work experience)
  • Ability to apply engineering and scientific practices to ensure validity/accuracy of test results
  • Capable of preforming detailed analysis of complex data to identify problems and recommend solutions
  • Ability to apply a wide range of theories, concepts, principles and procedures in relation to signal analysis
  • Experience with articulating and conveying complex topics to personnel less versed
  •  Familiar with RF devices (Coaxial cable, 50ohm connectors, attenuators, etc.)
  • Capable of demonstrating proficiency in utilizing electrical test equipment (such as signal generators, oscilloscopes and network analyzers)
  • Willing to travel up to twice a year for up to two weeks at a time if a remote test event is scheduled
  • Willing to work overtime when required by test schedule
  • Willing to work in an indoor and outdoor environment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance

Physical environment and working conditions:

The physical environment requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for most of the workday.  Work is physically comfortable. The employee has discretion about sitting, walking, standing, etc.

 

The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site.  In some occasions, the employee may be required to report to offices or buildings near the work site.  In rare occasions, overnight travel may be required.

 

The physical environment requires the employee to stand, walk and/or move throughout the workday, often bending over and picking up items less than 50 lbs. This position may also require driving government vehicles.
