The Position:

AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Software Developer (Tableau Jira)-Journeyman to support Battlespace Modeling & Simulation. The salary range of this position is $90,000.00 - $145,000.00, and is commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for hybrid work.

Position Background:

The Battlespace Division is a government organization comprised of four branches that are dedicated to providing enterprise level modeling and simulation (M&S) tools in support of warfighter training; test and evaluation (T&E); data analysis; live, virtual and constructive (LVC); research and development (R&D) activities for DoD agencies and its international partners. The tools include the Next Generation Threat System (NGTS), the Global Reusable Interface Domain (GRID), the Weapons Server Common Environment (WSCE), the Simulation Control Executive (SCE), the Simulation Debrief Tool (SDT), and the Analysis and Reporting Tool (ART). The Battlespace Division designs, develops, documents and deploys these tools. The Battlespace Division also delivers these products as an integrated suite of tools called Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) Technical Baseline (JTB); the battlespace for JSE.

A typical day as a Software Developer (Tableau Jira)-Journeyman may include:

• Designs, develops and conducts unit testing and maintains complex Tableau reports for scalability, manageability, extensibility, performance and re-use
• Provides technical expertise in areas of architecture, design and implementation
• Connects Tableau to Jira to extract and import data for analysis and visualization
• Determines the best implementation that will meet the design of the architect
• Works with team members to create useful reports and dashboards that provide insight, improve/automate processes or otherwise add value to the team
• Works through iterative review cycles to deliver results that meet/exceed user expectations
• Presents complex Jira data in a clear and intuitive manner using various Tableau chart types
• Creates reports that track project progress, sprint performance and other agile metrics
• Ensures consistency by adhering to a set of software coding and style guides
• Resolves support tickets related to Tableau reports

Must-haves:

• BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics or Physics
• 3 years of relevant work experience
• Experience with developing and working Tableau driven dashboards and analytics
• The ability to query and display large data sets while maximizing the performance of workbook
• The ability to interpret technical or dashboard structure and translate complex business requirements to technical specifications
• Working knowledge of Tableau administrator/architecture
• Advanced Tableau development skills
• High-level competency in Excel (macros, pivot tables, etc.)
• Understanding of advanced calculations and statistical functions
• Basic understanding of SQL (Structured Query Language) or JQL (Jira Query Language) for data extraction and filtering
• Strong communication skills
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong understanding of data manipulation, cleaning and transformation techniques
• Familiarity with programming languages like SQL, R or Python for automating tasks and connecting to different data sources
• Proficiency in Tableau including creating dashboards, visualizations and calculated fields
• Knowledge of Jira's features and functionalities including creating issues, managing workflows and integrating with other tools
• In-depth understanding of computer software tools and technical analysis principles
• Practical experience in data analysis
• Experience with Tableau development or Jira management
• The ability to accommodate a hybrid schedule-Classified support will require in-office support at government or contractor site as workload dictates
• The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

Desired Skills:

• Tableau certifications such as Tableau Desktop Specialist or Tableau Pro
• Experience supporting DoD programs
• Experience working with a software development team

Physical Environment and Working Conditions:

The physical environment requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for most of the workday.  Work is physically comfortable. The employee has discretion about sitting, walking, standing, etc.

The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site. In some occasions, the employee may be required to report to offices or buildings near the work site. In rare occasions, overnight travel may be required.
