The Position:
AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Systems Engineer-Junior to support Battlespace Modeling & Simulation. The salary range of this position is $85,000.00 - $105,000.00 and is commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for remote work; on-site support is required.

Position Background:
The Analysis, Debrief, and Test (ADT) Branch supports the development, integration, and testing of the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) Technical Baseline (JTB) product suite. The software products comprising the JTB support modeling and simulation (M&S) environments; trainer systems; test and evaluation (T&E); analysis; live, virtual and constructive (LVC); research and development (R&D) activities for DoD agencies and its international partners. All products are government owned, developed and managed.
A typical day as a Systems Engineer-Junior may include:
- Serves as a Systems Engineer supporting the Battlespace Division in design, development, integration and testing of complex software modeling/simulation environments
- Performs systems engineering including design, integration and quality
- Performs requirement decomposition, uses case development and traces artifacts to architecture constructs
- Supports requirement decomposition activities to include the establishment of verification attributes (verification test method, level, approach, success criteria and test requirements)
- Collaborates with the systems engineering teams to design and develop software
- Assists in providing technical information and clarification during the entire software development lifecycle (conceptualization, design, development, testing, deployment and operations)
- Performs solution decomposition (customer epics, capabilities, features and stories according to SAFe Agile practices)
- Applies systems engineering expertise to feature designs in order to reduce overall risk to the software development effort
- Engages with customer user representatives or Subject Matter E(SMEs) to gather user needs and incorporate them into the feature designs for the agile development teams
- Engages with SMEs from other disciplines to fully understand solutions and document designs
- Performs design activities with cross-disciplined engineering teams
- Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the overarching system
- Assesses the impact of changes, recognizes the connections, anticipates future issues, and applies system thinking principles to enhance overall performance
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships within the department and with stakeholders across USN and USAF
- Interacts appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment
Must-haves:
- BS Degree in Computer Science or Engineering: Degrees in Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Aerospace, Computers, Software Systems, Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering may qualify
- 1 year of relevant work experience
- 1 year of experience in Mission Systems Modeling & Simulation (M&S)
- 1 year of experience with programming languages such as C++, Python 3, HTML and MATLAB
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- The ability to work independently and with teams
- The ability to effectively organize, prioritize, schedule and complete tasking across several efforts
- Basic understanding of aerospace systems principles
- The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
Desired Skills:
- Education/Experience in one or more of the following: Cameo, Jama, DOORS, SysML or Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF)
- Knowledge of tasking performed throughout engineering development lifecycle (requirements, design, software, test and integration)
- Experience with requirement development, verification, validation, ICDs, risk, issues and opportunities management/trade studies
- Experience in various engineering disciplines such as Computer, Aerospace and Systems Engineering
- Experience in applying program management best practices
- Knowledge of Continuous Integration and Continuous Development (CICD) principles with security requirements (part of practicing DevSecOps on programs)
- Experience in a cloud development environment
- Experience with Atlassian Tools such as Confluence and Jira

Physical Environment and Working Conditions:
The physical environment for this position requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for most of the workday. Work is physically comfortable. The employee has discretion about sitting, walking, standing, etc.
The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site or near the work site. On rare occasions, overnight travel may be required.
