The Position:

AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Security Specialist (Facilities)-Journeyman to support Battlespace Modeling & Simulation. The salary range of this position is $75,000.00 - $125,000.00 and is commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for hybrid work.

Position Background:

The Simulation Support Branch is a government organization comprised of eleven teams that are dedicated to supporting warfighter training through enterprise-scale platform engineering and systems integration; test and evaluation (T&E); data analysis; live, virtual and constructive (LVC); research and development (R&D) activities for DoD agencies and its international partners. The teams include Finance, Development Operations, Configuration Management, Facilities Support (Pax River, Holly 3, and Orlando), Training, System Support, Business Operations, Information Technology (IT), Information Assurance (IA), Project Support Team (PST), and Interface Development Team (IDT). All processes and deliverables are government owned, developed and managed.

 

A typical day as a Security Specialist (Facilities)-Journeyman may include:

  • Completes day-to-day tasking in a secure environment
  • Conducts media inventories
  • Develops, participates in and/or provides security training and awareness
  • Implements and maintains technical/physical security requirements and inspections
  • Maintains/Updates Emergency Action Plan
  • Coordinates with access control personnel for visitor access and control
  • Issues access control badges and verifies security clearances via DISS
  • Assists in maintaining an internal security program, including required tasks for safeguarding classified information
  • Assists with the preparation and execution of providing training on a variety of security-related topics to diverse groups using different techniques and technologies
  • Uses general awareness of all security disciplines sufficient to identify situations requiring consultation with other security specialists (i.e. Industrial Security, Physical Security, Personnel Security, Information Security, Operations Security and Communications Security)
  • Conducts/Assists other security specialists in conducting annual facility and material inventories
  • Repairs electronic door locks
  • Updates/Coordinates alarm response via recall list and access list control
  • Performs as the alarm panel administrator by adding and removing users, conducting minor troubleshooting submitting service tickets, conducting alarm checks, breech checks, responding to system alarms and retention of required documentation
  • Maintains and controls the issuance of security locks and locking devices (i.e. X-09, X-10, etc.), including repair tickets
  • Creates/Maintains monthly SF701 and SF702 in accordance with installation regulations
  • Coordinates with contractors for service, repairs and upgrades
  • Maintains key control and documentation
  • Ensures safe inventory (documents/equipment inside of safe)
  • Maintains safe documentation (Inventory Sheets, Open/Closed, Safe Door forms, etc.)
  • Issues pass cards and signatures

 

Must-haves:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • 4 years of relevant work experience
  • 4 years of experience working in a facility managing classified information
  • Familiarity with X-07, X-08, X-09, X-10, and S&G locks to include changing combinations and updating SF700s
  • Familiarity with security requirements from SECNAV 5510.3 and OPNAVINST 5530.14
  • Experience handling STIG and Traditional Security Checklists, DoD Instructions, Manuals, etc.
  • The ability to climb and work on tall ladders
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications to include MS Word, Outlook, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
  • The ability to effectively communicate in security related situations and disseminate information
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

 

Desired Skills:

  • Experience working on electronic doors locks
  • Geographical location within an hour from NAS Pax River
  • Experience with access control, badging, intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) operation, Automated Entry Control Systems (AECS) and the Department of Defense Lock Program
  • Ability to research, interpret and implement DoD guidelines/regulations for a classified environment

Physical Environment and Working Conditions:

The physical environment for this position requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for most of the workday. Work is physically comfortable. The employee has discretion about sitting, walking, standing, etc.

 

The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site or near the work site. On rare occasions, overnight travel may be required.

 

The employee is required to stand, walk and/or move throughout the workday, often bending over and lifting items up to approximately 50 lbs.
