The Position:
AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Software Developer (JIRA)-Junior to support Battlespace Modeling & Simulation. The salary range of this position is $85,000.00 - $105,000.00 and is commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for remote work; on-site support is required.

Position Background:
The Synthetic Environment Modeling (SEM) team is a government run organization that develops the Next Generation Threat System (NGTS) software program, a continually evolving synthetic environment generator that supports modeling and simulation (M&S) environments. The NGTS product users include trainer systems; test and evaluation (T&E); analysis; live, virtual and constructive (LVC); research and development (R&D) activities for DoD agencies and its international partners. NGTS is government owned, developed and managed.
A typical day as a Software Developer (JIRA)-Junior may include:
- Develops software for an advanced synthetic training environment
- Integrates software into flight simulators to support pilot training against potential threats
- Supports software development, software integration, customer training and demonstrations
- Collaborates with small teams in an Agile environment
- Contributes to other teams on a large shared codebase of shared libraries and applications
- Works closely with Subject Matter Experts to create software solutions tailored to warfighter simulation needs
- Uses case analysis, software design, implementation and testing
- Designs, develops and maintains complex Jira dashboards and reports for scalability, manageability, extensibility, performance and re-use
- Works with Release Train Engineer (RTE) to ensure dashboards are up-to-date and free from anomalies/inaccuracies
- Provides technical expertise in areas of Jira design and implementation
- Works with team members to create useful reports/dashboards that provide insight, improve/automate processes or otherwise add value to the team
- Works through iterative review cycles to deliver results that meet or exceed user expectations
- Presents complex Jira data in a clear and intuitive manner
- Creates reports that track project progress, sprint performance and other agile metrics
- Ensures consistency by adhering to a set of software coding and style guides
- Resolves support tickets related to Tableau reports (a tool that Jira data is pulled into for leadership reporting)
Must-haves:
- BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics or Physics
- 1 year of relevant work experience
- Knowledge of Jira's features and functionalities including creating issues, managing workflows and integrating with other tools
- Strong understanding of data manipulation, cleaning and transformation techniques
- Familiarity with programming languages like SQL, R or Python for automating tasks and connecting to different data sources
- In-depth understanding of computer software tools and technical analysis principles
- The ability to write and optimize queries to filter and report on issues
- The ability to work through large data sets to find inconsistencies and anomalies
- Experience creating and managing Jira dashboards
- Strong communication skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
Desired Skills:
- Experience in data analysis and/or Jira management
- Experience supporting DoD programs
- Experience working with a software development team

Physical Environment and Working Conditions:
The physical environment for this position requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for most of the workday. Work is physically comfortable. The employee has discretion about sitting, walking, standing, etc.
The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site or near the work site. On rare occasions, overnight travel may be required.
