The position:

AMEWAS, Inc. is seeking highly motivated and talented Vulnerability Researcher/Malware Analyst to support a government customer. Cyber Warfare is a serious threat to today’s military mission systems and sound Cyber Security practices for NAVAIR’s networks, platforms, and weapons systems are essential to meet that threat.

This position is classified as AMEWAS labor category Information Assurance Specialist or Engineer.

A typical day as a Vulnerability Researcher/Software Reverse Engineer may include:

  • The Vulnerability Researcher must work both independently and in a team environment and be able to reverse engineer malware samples to develop behavioral understanding and extract Indicators of Compromise for the development of detection signatures 
  • Hardware, firmware and software hacking.
  • Develop and maintain a test environment and procedures that can allow the execution of malware without the risk of the malware spreading to external systems.
  • Create detailed technical reports of analysis efforts.
  • The specialist must also be able to work with engineers and technicians to assist in understanding various cyber vulnerabilities and threats to assist in securing systems to protect against future threats and penetration.

Must-haves:

  • In-depth understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with static and dynamic malware analysis tools and techniques
  • Experience with host and network monitoring for the analysis of malware execution and distribution
  • Assembly language analysis or programming of x86/x64, ARM, PowerPC, MIPS and others
  • Entry Level- Minimum of 1 to 3 years'
  • Mid-Senior Level- Minimum of at least 3 years'
  • BS in Computer Science, IT, or Engineering
  • Certified Ethical Hacking or equivalent certification
  • Operating System specific certification or training
  • DoD Top Secret security clearance

Physical environment and working conditions:

The physical environment requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for most of the workday. Work is physically comfortable. The employee has discretion about walking, standing, etc.

The employee may be required to walk short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site. In some occasions, the employee may be required to drive to offices or buildings near the work site. In rare occasions, travel may be required.
