The position
AMEWAS, Inc. is seeking graduate-level Aerospace Engineers with training and experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), computational modeling techniques for atmospheric turbulence and ship airwake, and rotorcraft aerodynamics. Responsibilities will include setting up and executing CFD flow solver(s) to analyze the effects of atmospheric turbulence coupled with ship generated air turbulence on rotorcraft performance.  This effort will be in support of the Naval Air Systems Command and is designed to provide an opportunity for engineering students to obtain hands-on engineering experience in a real-world military environment.

This position is classified as AMEWAS labor category Apprentice.

A typical day as an Aerospace Engineering Summer Apprentice:

  • Set-up and execute CFD flow solvers
  • Analyze effects of atmospheric turbulence, ship-generated turbulence, and rotocraft performance.
  • Work with NAWC-AD Engineers to enhance knowledge-base

Must-haves:

  • Must have training and experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), computational modeling techniques for atmospheric turbulence and ship airwake, and rotorcraft aerodynamics.
  • All candidates must be able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance. Upon receipt of signed offer, AMEWAS will process for clearances prior to program start date.
  • Currently enrolled in a college program pursuing a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering degree

All applicants should include transcripts (unofficial) of completed college courses and information related to engineering projects or courses, including any previous High School STEM-related courses.

Physical environment and working conditions:

The physical environment requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for most of the workday.  Work is physically comfortable. The employee has discretion about walking, standing, etc.  The employee may be required to walk short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site.  In some occasions, the employee may be required to drive to offices or buildings near the work site.
