The Position:

AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Apprentice (Mechanical Engineer-E3)-Junior to support Electromagnetic Environmental Effects. The salary of this position is $27.00/hour. This position is not eligible for remote work; on-site support is required.

Position Background:

The Integrated Battlespace Simulation and Test (IBST) Department’s E3 facility is the center of excellence in aircraft E3 Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation. Our state-of-the-art laboratories specializes in a variety of capabilities, ranging from box level to complete system level testing. The E3 vision is to be dedicated to improving current and future DoD Test & Evaluation capabilities; in simulation of operational and threat environments, high-energy physics and directed energy weapons by empowering the workforce to approach solutions from outside of the box. With IBST at the helm, we're not just preparing for the future but shaping it.

 

A typical day as an Apprentice (Mechanical Engineer-E3)-Junior may include:

  • Learns and develops skills to assist in duties associated with construction methods for military/secure facilities (including on-site inspections and learning about new facility construction), machining processes, fabrication processes and project management
  • Studies and adheres to Department of Defense specifications and Military Standards (MIL-STD)
  • Conducts basic design of antenna array mounting system including design, stress analysis and CAD drawings
  • Studies and learns about recently installed systems that include hydraulics, pneumatics, air systems, ground support equipment, electrical supply/distribution, antenna array support, fluid handling/transfer, PLC controls and weapons testing fixture design

 

Must-haves:

  • Current college student (must have 2 years of college completed-entering or already in Junior year) pursuing Mechanical Engineering focused on an ABET STEM curriculum with a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Knowledge of MS Office products
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

 

Desired Skills:

  • Experience working around naval aircrafts

Candidates must have a customer-focused attitude with a high level of professionalism and discretion, and have the ability to work effectively with both management, and as part of a team, to meet project targets.

 

Physical Environment and Working Conditions:

The physical environment requires the employee to work in the field for a majority of their day, on site versus in an office. The physical environment also requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for part of the day. 

 

The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site. In some occasions, the employee may be required to report to offices or buildings near the work site.

 

Employee will be required to stand, walk and/or move throughout the workday, often bending over and lifting items up to approximately 50 lbs.
