The Position:

AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Software Engineer (Quality Assurance Analyst and Tester)-Journeyman to support Battlespace Modeling & Simulation. The salary range of this position is $90,000.00 - $130,000.00, and is commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for hybrid work.

Position Background:

Analysis, Debrief, and Test (ADT) Branch supports the development, integration, and testing of the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) Technical Baseline (JTB) product suite. The software products comprising the JTB support modeling and simulation (M&S) environments; trainer systems; test and evaluation (T&E); analysis; live, virtual and constructive (LVC); research and development (R&D) activities for DoD agencies and its international partners. All products are government owned, developed and managed. The Next Generation Threat System (NGTS) is a continually evolving synthetic environment generator that supports multiple platform/services training, testing, analysis and research and development. The Global Reusable Interface Domain (GRID) is a high-performance, high-fidelity network library that provides physics-based interaction and propagation effects between all constructive and virtual entities in a simulated environment. The Weapon Server Common Environment (WSCE) provides real-time, high-fidelity kinetic weapon model flyouts and sensor modeling from on-rail support through launch to Endgame. The Simulation Control Executive (SCE) is an application coupled with a collection of JSE developed scripts used to start, stop, and monitor various simulation systems as well as manage and reset simulation applications. The Analysis and Reporting Tool (ART) suite is designed to provide Shot Card, Timeline Gantt Chart, Event Table, and Record/Playback functionality, enabling analysis of JTB performance during the various test and training scenarios. The Battlespace Environment Audio Visual Event Recorder (BEAVER) displays simulation data (DIS, HLA, etc.), as well as video (with sound) from multiple cockpits. It provides synchronized playback of the video streams and enables scenario livestream and playback.

 

A typical day as a Software Engineer (Quality Assurance Analyst and Tester)-Journeyman may include:

  • Tests software that is integrated into flight simulators to support pilot training against potential threats for an advanced synthetic training environment
  • Supports software development, software integration, testing, customer training and demonstrations
  • Installs and runs regression tests on a new JTB Software Product test builds
  • Tests a variety of Jira issues including new feature implementation, bug fixes and database queries
  • Documents issues in Jira discovered from test results
  • Collaborates with JTB Software Product Owners, developers and subject matter experts during test/training sessions
  • Creates test procedure documents to validate new requirements
  • Communicates within a large team to verify correct procedures and diagnose software issues
  • Runs extensive regression testing when software reaches Release Candidate (RC) phrase

 

Must-haves:

  • BS/BA Degree in Electronics, Computer, Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or Mathematics: HS or GED with three years of relevant work experience may qualify
  • 3 years of experience testing/developing software products
  • Experience with scripting, databases and programming languages to include C++
  • The ability to accommodate a hybrid schedule (1-2 days a week in office) with a mandatory 2-3 month on site training period (Managers discretion)
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Special Access Program (SAP) Clearance
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

 

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with scripting, database and programming languages in Python 3 and HTML
  • Experience supporting Model and Simulation efforts
  • Experience supporting automated testing
  • Experience supporting Special Access Program (SAP) efforts

Physical Environment and Working Conditions:

The physical environment requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for most of the workday.  Work is physically comfortable. The employee has discretion about sitting, walking, standing, etc.

 

The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site.  In some occasions, the employee may be required to report to offices or buildings near the work site.  In rare occasions, overnight travel may be required.
