The position:

AMEWAS, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and talented Summer Apprentice to support Aircraft Prototype System Division. This position is on a SCA contract which is subject to the terms and conditions of the McNamara-O’Hara Service Contract Act (SCA).

This position is classified as AMEWAS labor category Apprentice.

A typical day as an Apprentice may include:

• Performs general fabrication support functions, as assigned and under the observation and supervision of experienced and permanently assigned fabrication workshop technicians for wiring, sheet metal, machining, or electronics disciplines.
• The Apprentice must demonstrate the desire to learn and the ability to perform, under the observation, supervision of experienced and permanently assigned fabrication workshop technicians, a practical application of tools and techniques to assigned tasks.
• The Apprentice will receive technical guidance from the supervisor and permanently assigned skilled technicians.
• Work will be reviewed for proper technique, and monitored for specific compliance with accepted safety standards, practices and work tasks.

Must-haves:

• HS Diploma or equivalent or current student in a trade or technical schedule education program

Customer-focused attitude with high level of professionalism and discretion. Ability to work effectively with management and part of a team to meet targets.  Is reliable, possesses initiative, and works well as an individual or part of a team.

Physical environment and working conditions:

The physical environment requires the employee to stand, walk and/or move throughout the workday, often bending over and picking up items less than 50 lbs. and/or operating machinery to assist in the movement of heavy objects such as forklifts and dollies.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud
