The Position:

AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Electrical Engineer (Pulsed Power)-Journeyman support Electromagnetic Environmental Effects. The salary range of this position is $90,000.00 - $150,000.00 and is commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for remote work; on-site support is required.

Position Background:

The Integrated Battlespace Simulation and Test (IBST) Department’s E3 facility is the center of excellence in aircraft E3 Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation. Our state-of-the-art laboratories specializes in a variety of capabilities, ranging from box level to complete system level testing. The E3 vision is to be dedicated to improving current and future DoD Test & Evaluation capabilities; in simulation of operational and threat environments, high-energy physics and directed energy weapons by empowering the workforce to approach solutions from outside of the box. With IBST at the helm, we're not just preparing for the future but shaping it.

 

A typical day as an Electrical Engineer (Pulsed Power)-Journeyman may include:

  • Serves as an Electrical Engineer in the Electromagnetic Effects Group, NAVAIRWARCENAC DIV working within the Data Acquisition and Processing System (DAPS) group at Patuxent River Naval Air Station’s Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Test Range
  • Supports the setup and maintenance of electrical sensing equipment for real-time data acquisition during electromagnetic effects testing (Ex. current transducers, oscilloscopes, RF equipment, etc.)
  • Develops and improves existing data acquisition methodology (Ex. improving efficiency of calibration or producing detailed documentation for training purposes)
  • Characterizes RF equipment using network analyzers in terms of scattering parameters or “S parameters” to produce calibration curves
  • Performs mathematical corrections of data (Ex. applying probe correction factors performing extrapolation using Fourier techniques)
  • Utilizes data control/analysis software environments (Ex. MATLAB and LabVIEW) to aid in performing signal analysis of measured electromagnetic effects data.

 

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Mathematics OR HS Diploma or Equivalent with 10 years of relevant experience in RF, electromagnetics or signal analysis
  • 3 years of relevant work experience
  • 3 years of relevant work experience in the private or public sector: student research at the college level may qualify
  • Demonstrated engineering and scientific practices to ensure the validity and accuracy of test results
  • Experience preforming detailed analysis of complex data to identify problems and recommend solutions
  • Experience applying a wide range of theories, concepts, principles and procedures related to signal analysis
  • The ability to articulate and convey complex topics to personnel with less technical expertise
  • Familiarity with RF devices (Ex. coaxial cables, 50-ohm connectors, attenuators, etc.)
  • Proficiency utilizing electrical test equipment (Ex. signal generators, oscilloscopes and network analyzers)
  • Willingness to travel up to twice a year for up to two weeks at a time if a remote test event is scheduled
  • Willingness to work overtime when required by test schedule
  • Willingness to work in an indoor and outdoor environments
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD (Top) Secret Security Clearance-AMEWAS willing to obtain and process full clearance

 

Desired Skills:

  • Experience acting in a team leadership role
  • Experience briefing senior personnel

Physical Environment and Working Conditions:

The physical environment requires the employee to work in the field for a majority of their day in indoor and outdoor environments, on site versus in an office. The physical environment also requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for part of the day.

 

The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site or near the work site. Overnight travel will be required.

 

The employee is required to stand, walk and/or move throughout the workday, often bending over and lifting items up to approximately 50 lbs.
