The Position:
AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Software Developer (DAPS)-Senior to support Battlespace Modeling & Simulation. The salary range of this position is $135,000.00 - $185,000.00, and is commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for hybrid work.

Position Background:
The Data Acquisition and Processing (DAPS) team is a government run team that supports data collection efforts during electromagnetic pulse (EMP), Lightning, and Radio Frequency (RF) susceptibility testing at Naval Air Station Patuxent River Maryland. As a Software Developer on the DAPS team will support the development, validation, installation and integration proof-of-concept acquisition software to interface with both new and legacy Data Acquisition and Processing System (DAPS) hardware commercial off the shelf (COTS) products and databases at the Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) facility.
A typical day as a Software Developer (DAPS)-Senior may include:
- Designs a Windows application that will serve as the new DAPS software
- Utilizes an Agile implementation process to employ fixed length Sprints encompassing requirements, design, development, testing and deployment, resulting in a finished and tested product at the end of each Sprint
- Uses Agile methods such as SCRUM or DoD agile standard
- Develops, designs, documents and delivers a high-level design of the overall system architecture for a new Data Acquisition and Processing System (DAPS) using Agile implementation processes
- Attends daily internal discussions, development work, Sprint Review meetings and Sprint Retrospective
- Completes high-level design element of the complete system at the end of each sprint
- Conducts a preliminary design review and the systems requirements review of the high-level design
- Creates the System Architecture documentation
- Works with team to develop all other documentation for project
- Acts as a supporting member of software developers creating DAPS software
- Interfaces software that communicates/imports the legacy DAPS Microsoft Access Structured Query Language (SQL) relational database
- Interfaces software that interacts/interfaces with the existing EG&G ODS-1500 and ODS-2200 Optical Data Link transceivers used at NAWCAD EMP facility
- Interfaces for recording, playback, presentation and post execution analysis
- Incorporates a new graphic user interface (GUI) to control software functions
- Communicates with Windows based systems that include oscilloscopes, network analyzers and computers
- Uses Python, VS Code (or other IDEs), Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, GitLab or MySQL (or other DBs)
Must-haves:
- BS Degree in Computer Science or Engineering: Degrees in Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Aerospace, Computers, Software Systems, Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering may qualify with at least 10 years of relevant experience
- 10 years of relevant work experience
- Proficiency in Python
- Proficiency in DevOps and Continuous Integration
- Experience with complex application architectures including separation of application roles and using/designing APIs to control or retrieve data from other applications
- Experience designing GUIs (either OS or web applications)
- Experience analyzing existing database schemas
- Experience designing new database schemas
- Knowledge of standard programming algorithms, design patterns and object-oriented software design
- Experience analyzing legacy software as part of software modernization efforts
- Experience using Agile development and DevOps methodologies
- The ability to collaborate with customers (including engineers and technicians) to design, develop and deploy solutions
- The ability to accommodate a hybrid schedule (1-2 days a week in office) with a mandatory 3-month onsite training period (manager’s discretion)
- The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
Desired Skills:
- Experience with C++, Java and/or HTML
- Experience using oscilloscopes and other RF measurement equipment
- Experience developing software to collect data from measurement equipment
- Experience using containers as part of DevOps
- Experience supporting Special Access Program (SAP) efforts

Physical Environment and Working Conditions:
The physical environment requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for most of the workday. Work is physically comfortable. The employee has discretion about sitting, walking, standing, etc.
The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site. In some occasions, the employee may be required to report to offices or buildings near the work site. Overnight travel will be required.
